Alpine coasters
2nd day
A day in a children's paradise with the whole family.
The mountain playground at the Kolbensattelhütte is a very special kind of playground! The wide view over the Ammertal forms the backdrop for an adventure playground, for which play equipment was specially developed to bring children closer to nature and the mountains in a playful way.
The trace gyro is a balance exercise for the little ones. Arranged in a spiral, spruce trunks are anchored in the ground at wide intervals and are crowned with animal depictions of local mountain cattle. A sturdy rope serves as a balancing aid from one trunk to the other.
Another climbing frame gives children the feeling of gymnastics around in a mountain giant's Mikado game. The large logs appear to be lying in a haphazard heap, but they are stable and securely mounted.
The Alpine Coaster at Kolbensattel in Oberammergau offers fun and action for the whole family. From the Kolbensattelhütte you go 2,600 meters long into the valley with breathtaking views and adventurous curves.
Children are only allowed to use the Alpine Coaster from the age of 3 (proof of age required). Children aged 8 and over and 1.40 m tall are allowed to ride the Alpine Coaster alone.
Please ask at reception for prices.

Round trip to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany
5th day
Top of Germany! The Zugspitze…
Without exaggeration: the 2,962 meter high Zugspitze is a mountain of superlatives. The largest elevation in Germany is home to three glaciers, a unique 360° panorama with Alpine peaks from four countries and an attractive range of experiences. A summer day on the Zugspitze gives you mountains full of possibilities: let your gaze wander up to 250 km into the distance, visit the historical Zugspitze exhibition, go on an exciting glacier hike or go tobogganing on natural snow.
This is how you can experience the complete mountain experience in comfort: the cog railway takes you from Garmisch-Partenkirchen Zugspitz station to the idyllic Eibsee. The ascent with the Eibsee cable car offers spectacular views of the lake, before the enormous panorama at the Zugspitze summit opens up new horizons. With the glacier railway you reach the Zugspitz glacier at 2,600 meters before the cog railway takes you comfortably through the Zugspitz tunnel back to the starting point. Round thing!
Circular hike to the Tannenhütte

Walking time: Ascent approx. 1:45 h, descent approx. 1:15 h.

Hike through the Höllentalklamm
2nd day
The start is in Hammersbach and can be reached in 20 minutes by car from Garmisch. It is also possible to take the Zugspitzbahn to Hammersbach or cycle from the hotel across the meadows in around 30 minutes.
A very special natural spectacle awaits parents and children on the hike through the Höllentalklamm. The hike through the Höllentalklamm is a welcome change for families near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The path through the Höllentalklamm opens up a part of wild mountain nature and is damp and slippery in places. Families should therefore be careful when visiting the gorge.
Safety is important!
Although the entire, more than 1 km long, path through the Höllentalklamm is well insured, sturdy shoes and, ideally, ankle-high hiking boots are the best precaution. Younger children should be kept a close eye on this hike and should be held by the hand. An extra fuse may also make sense.
Hiking next to roaring water masses. The climb through the Höllentalklamm takes parents and children impressively alongside the Hammersbach. Even on sunny, warm days, the gorge is cool and refreshing thanks to the roaring water masses. In places in the Höllentalklamm it is unavoidable that you get wet. That's why it's helpful to have waterproof clothing with you when hiking on cooler days.
Refreshments for hungry hikers
After about 45 minutes, families reach the end of the Höllentalklamm. The path continues to the Höllentalangerhütte, which is idyllically located on a green valley floor. From the hut, families can enjoy the wonderful panorama of the Waxstein, the Riffelspitzen and the Höllentafferner with the Zugspitze (2964 m) behind it.
Trip to the Eibsee below the Zugspitze
4th day
The clear mountain lake can be reached by car in about 30 minutes. You can also use the Eibseebus or the Zugspitzbahn.
A trip with the motorboat “Resi” is recommended. If you are good on foot you can walk around the lake in 2 hours.
There is also a boat rental with a “slide pedal boat”! The kiosk by the lake offers very fine fish, with giant pretzels and drinks.
Family trip to Pflegersee
6th day
The picturesque Pflegersee is a popular excursion destination at any time of the year. The Pflegersee lies idyllically at an altitude of 845 meters at the foot of the mighty Königsstand on the one hand and quiet forest and hiking trails on the other. The proximity to the ruins of Werdenfels Castle, which is only one kilometer away, makes the Pflegersee a beautiful destination, especially for families with a thirst for adventure. You can cool down after a discovery tour.
Of course, this also applies to hikers and Nordic walkers who like to start at Pflegersee. In the natural pool, a kiosk supplies visitors with ice cream, snacks and drinks. The lake's moor water is said to have a healing effect on skin and hair. Rowing boats and a small jetty are also available.
